Bro Preseli

On the Bro Preseli Dylan Davies and Gareth Evans came 21st overall, winning the under 1400 class. Phil Jenkins finished first novice. Michael (Tonto) Bailey split a water pipe but still finished 13th overall. Lee Plant was winning class 2 but picked up a fail for a wrong depart but couldn’t put in a protest as no time was given between provisional and final results. Lee was joined by Andrew Gaunt on his debut run, and was praised for his excellent work on the maps. Paul Nobby was navigating, finished but suffered navigational sickness. Debbie Evans also suffered the same problem!

Wyedean

On the Wyedean Rally, GrantRees had a good run and finished 11th overall while Eryl Evans also had a finish whilst navigating.

Bro Caron Rally

The month of February got off to a start with the local Bro Caron rally on February 25th /26th. The event was won by Lampeter crew Gary Davies and Dorian Evans, Gary winning his third consecutive Bro Caron, and Dorian adding to his numerous wins! Finishing 12th overall and 11th in class 1 was Rob Chell with his Llandysul navigator in his Peugeot 205. Having to go round to avoid Alan Gaunt and Lee Plant stuck in the Ford in Farmers the next Lampeter crew to finish was Edryd the chairman Evans and Richard Briddon – 15th overall. 16th overall was Nick Pek Evans in his trusty escort which proved not to be so trusty on the night. He was 3rd in petrol but his camshaft went in the second half.

First in Class 2 was navigator Huw Mathias, navigating for Andrew Thomas from Carmarthen. Finishing 3rd in Class 2 was the winning combination of Dylan Davies and Gareth Evans in their little Suzuki Swift, yes, Gary Davies and Islwyn Evans juniors! – and rumours have it that Davies junior was showing Davies senior the way to drive on some selectives. With a few more horses under the bonnet for Dylan - look out Gary & Dorian! Nearly 2 minutes behind them and finishing fourth in Class 2 was Arwyn Williams and Alan Lloyd in their Ford Escort.

First in Class 3 was Emyr Oily Evans and Dylan Hughes with Justin Jones and Debbie Evans finishing 8th in the Class after an eventful and laughter packed second half! Second in Class 3 was Gavin Perry and Llyr Jones and third in the class was Hywel Wiliams and Shaun Waller.

Other finishers were Noel Broderick and Vincent Fagan – 35th overall in their BMW 318. David Hands and Craig Davies finished 40th overall with Owain Evans and Arfon Griffiths finishing 44th overall in their Vauxhall Astra. 48th was Richard Jones and Anthony Lichfield, with Dorian Evans and Clayton Gibbons finishing 52nd, and finally Mark Hokin and Gary Brown in their Ford Sierra coming in, in 53rd place.

All the above finishers prove that it takes more than a bit of wind and rain to phase Lampeter crews from getting results.

Gremlin Road Rally

On the 3rd/4th March two crews from Lampeter made the journey to Brecon for the Gremlin Rally run by Brecon Motor Club namely Justin Jones and Lewis Jenkins who finished 20th overall and 3rd in Class, and Edryd Evans and Richard Briddon who finished 27th overall having grown a dislike to tulips!

Gareth Hall Winter Challenge

10th/11th of March finally saw the Gareth Hall Winter challenge being run, after it was re-scheduled because of the Winter weather proving a challenge in February!!

Third overall and keeping Lampeter on the map was Gary Davies and Dorian Evans. Edryd Chairman Evans finished 27th overall his navigator Richard Briddon having had an off night being poorly all night and missing a control. Hywel Williams and Clayton Gibbons did not finish.

John Price Rallying National Tour of Epynt

The determining of results for the Tour of Epynt proved very controversial with Melvyn Evans winning the event with his times, but after fuel controversy was disqualified!

Rali Cwm Gwendraeth

Rali Cwm Gwendraeth in Pembrey on 11th March was a very disappointing rally entry wise with only 35 entries out of a possible 75. Debbie Evans finished 12th overall, navigating for Ian Evans in a Ford Escort RS, while Emyr Morgan and Arwel F12  Thomas finished 29th overall.

Robin Hood Stages

On the Robin Hood Stages, Arwel Evans and Ian Oakey came 1st in Class D3 in their Ford Escort RS2000, and were 7th overall in the Classic Category 3 Class.

Greenleaves

Five crews from Lampeter travelled to the Greenleaves in April. Edryd Evans and Richard Briddon finished a very respectable 14th overall. Dorian Evans and Gary Davies did not have such a successful night when their gearbox broke and thus they pulled out.
Justin Jones and Lewis Jenkins did not fare much better either by picking up a fail after petrol and then knackered a bottom arm bush approx 25 miles from finish so had to back off to preserve the car and get to the finish. However they did finish 40th overall.
Dylan Davies did not have a finish when he had to pull out in petrol due to his navigator being ill, and Hywel Moyddin didn’t finish either.

Caerwent Stages

On the Caerwent Stages Debbie Evans , navigating for Ian Evans finished 14th overall and 1st in Class.

West Cork

Two Lampeter drivers travelled across the water to West Cork in March. John Doulton finished 1st in Class and 6th overall, while Melvyn Evans unfortunately did not finish after his turbo pipe broke.

Rali Bro Teifi

A handful of Lampeter crews ventured to Cardigan on the bright sunny afternoon of Saturday the 14th April to what was a very dusty start indeed. The rally took a whole new format this year. In the afternoon, many of the selectives were run on private land with the night selectives being run on normal roads. The top finisher was Rob Chell accompanied by Anthony Davies from Llandysul. They finished a very good 7th overall.  Edryd Evans and Richard Bridden followed finishing 12th overall.

Other finishers were Howell Williams and Aled Williams who came 46th overall with Dean Houghton navigating in a Rover running under LDMC came 47th overall. Gary Davies and Dorian Evans pulled out before the night selective having picked up a few fails!  The rally came to an early halt for Justin Jones and Lewis Jenkins as well when their ball joint broke on the first selective of the day. Malcolm Jones and Michael (Tonto) Bailey didn’t fare much better when they had to pull out with a hole in their sump. Another non-finisher was Mark Mayes Davies in his Vauxhall Nova.

Betta Somerset Stages

On Saturday 21st April Grant Rees took part in the Betta Stages down in Somerset. Unfortunately he failed to finish as one of his wheels came off.

Talbenny

On Sunday 22nd April two young members of LDMC ventured south to take part in the Talbenny Stages run by Pembroke Motor Club. Debbie Evans, navigating for Ian Evans in his Mk 2 Escort finished a well deserved first in Class and 15th overall. They also won the prize for the best sideways drift of the day!! Dylan Davies, navigating for Alex Crowley finished 7th in class and 20th overall in a Peugeot 205.

E & M Motor Factors Night Owl Rally

On Saturday 28th April quite a few Lampeter members travelled to the seaside to take part in the Night Owl Rally sponsored by our trusty Chairman – Edryd! Once again it was a successful night for Gary Davies and Dorian Evans, who won the event with nearly a minute in hand. Next, with another very commendable and consistent result was Rob Chell who finished 9th overall in his Peugeot 205. Edryd Evans and Richard Bridden however were hot on heels finishing 11th overall. Alan Gaunt finished 16th overall with Debbie Evans navigating for Teifi Valley driver Ceri Evans came an amazing 17th overall and second in class.

Next to finish was Justin Jones and Lewis Jenkins who came 41st overall having picked up a fail! Hywel Williams and Michael Gilbey also picked up a few fails but still managed to finish 47th overall. Nick Evans had an eventful finish. On the provisionals he appeared 7th overall but once the finals were announced he appeared as excluded as apparently his marshal had not shown up on the control! Of the non finishers were Aled Jones and Andrew Phillips, Mair Davies in her Vauxhall Astra and Gavin Perry and Llyr Jones.

Classic Tracks

On a very wet day on Sunday 27th May drivers convened in Llanybydder for the Classic Tracks rally organised by Llandysul Motor Club. One of the first Lampeter drivers to finish was Owen Evans in 13th place and 2nd in class. Dorian Evans and Clayton Gibbons had a very good run finishing16th overall and third in class.

Debbie Evans navigating in the Peugeot 205 having landed in a river, and being helped out by Justin and Edryd still managed to finish 27th overall. Dylan Evans navigating in a Vauxhall Astra finished 37th overall.

Of the non finishers were Malcolm tar Jones, Justin Jones and Edryd Evans with broken linkage, and Hywel Williams and Michael Tonto Bailey with a blown engine.

Dovey Autocraft Rally Bro Ddyfi

On the 9th/10th of June Malcolm Jones and Tonto took part in the Dovey Autocraft Rally Bro Ddyfi, but for some reason found themselves OTL after being stuck in a bog!. Mark Mayes Davies finished 22nd overall. Two other Lampeter drivers namely Rob Chell and Irfon Richards did not finish.

Cwrt Garage Ystwyth Rally

On the Cwrt Garage Ystwyth Rally on the 10th of June the only person from Lampeter to finish was Debbie Evans, but because of some bad luck only finished 22 overall, having been leading their class and apparently 5th overall most of the day. Of the non finishers were Edryd Evans and Richard Briddon, Malcolm Jones and Michael Bailey yet again, Rob Walters, and Mark Mayes Davies with a bent bottom arm.
