Dorian secures drive on Wales GB Rally all thanks to Hankook

With the Wales Rally GB only 5 weeks away it was good news all round for Llanybyther farmer Dorian Rees last weekend when he travelled to the Castle Coombe Rally Car Day for the launch of his fully backed drive on the World Championship event. Rees 29 was thrilled to have been asked to drive for the Hankook Motorsport Team “ they telephoned me up a few weeks ago and asked if I would be able to drive for the team as I am the current Production Cup British Champion” explained Rees who jumped at the chance “ its not often you get asked to drive for a team with full financial backing it’s a dream come true for me”. Dorian will be driving a GpN Mitsubishi Lancer with the liveried Hankook Korean tyre manufacturer logos on the side of the car as he negotiates the forests of South and West Wales over the three action packed days. The event will this year be using a purpose built stage in the millennium stadium at Cardiff for the first time on the Saturday night where a packed stadium is hoped to witness the worlds best drivers in action. Dorian will be co-driven on the event which is a round of the FIA Production Cup World Championship by the ever entertaining Wyn (Crybin) Thomas, Wyn is no stranger to being in the passenger side of a rally car having co-driven for many top British drivers in the past but it will be his first taste of the WRC.

The rally which runs from the 15 th – 18 th of September will be in the Brechfa forest complex on Friday 16th from aprox 9am till midday and with the stages being the first used on this years event it means all the top crews will be entering the forest complex with their cars in one piece, the event now has attracted an entry from former World Champion Colin Mc Rae who is entered by Skoda the appearance of the Scott back on British soil will surely bring back out the spectators in their thousands to see Colin race against the likes of Petter Sollberg ( Subaru) and Sebastian Loeb (Citreon). Dorian and Wyn will start a series of testing sessions with the team shortly on their build up to the event but Dorian added “ If it was not for my sponsors who backed me over the past years the telephone call from Hankook Motorsport would not have come I can not thank them enough” I started off in a little Peugeot before moving on to the Subaru Impreza which I won the British Championship Production Cup in last year”. “This year has been quiet I did enter the Wyedean Rally back in February in a World Rally Car and won the event oughtright, my aim is to achieve a decent result on the Wales Rally GB Hankook Motorsport have put their faith in me and I can not thank them enough”.
