Lampeter members shine on the lanes

The Mel Harris and Cambrian road rallies kicked off an action packed begininng to the 2011 rallying calendar with LDMC members taking to the lanes with some excellent results.

 

 

The Mel Harris road rally was to kick of the year after being re-shceduled due to the adverse weather conditions in December that saw the event cancelled on safety grounds. The event was then re-scheduled to take place on the weekend of the 8/9th of January and saw three Lampeter crews travel to Ammanford to compete. Stefan Davies and Mark Rodway finished the event with an impressive 6th O/a in the Ford Escort Mk2 and with that finishing the best of the Lampeter members. Chris Palmer and George Eadon soon followed in their Escort in 16th O/a. Johnathan Davies and Dafydd Evans finished 31st O/a and 2nd in the Novices class in yet another Ford Escort Mk2.

 

The following weekend (15/16th Jan) saw Tregaron & District Motor Club hold the Cambrian road rally starting at Bontrhydfendigaid. The event also saw the return of Radio Ceredigion airing the event live throughout the night with new hosts Andrew Edwards and Arwel Thomas keeping spectators and marshals up to date on the progress of competitors.

 

Several Lampeter members took to the start at Bontrhydfendigaid with the first section taking part at the track in Dolybolion. Gareth Evans and Robert Walters finished the highest placed Lampeter Members when they brought their Ford Escort Mk2 home in an excellent 3rd O/a and 2nd in the Experts class. Also occupying the top 10 with impressive finishes were Dafydd “Daffy” Hughes and Aneurin James in their Vauxhall Astra in 7th O/a and closely followed in 8th O/a was Chris Palmer in his Escort in his second event in as many weeks. 13th,14th and 15th O/a were also occupied by Lampeter members with Gareth Hughes and Andrew Gaunt in 13th. Meirion Evans 14th in his Astra and Marc Mayes 15th in his Corsa Gsi. James Davies and Tom Lloyd finished 18th O/a and 3rd in the Semi-Experts with Gareth “Pasty” Harris and Craig Davies rounding out the top 20 in 20th O/a and taking the Best Under 1400 honours.

Other members that completed the challenging event were Daniel Evans and Andrew Ling in 24th O/a. Gareth Hodgson and Geraint Wright who finished 28th O/a and 3rd in the Novices class. Alex and Sean Crowley who finished 37th O/a and finally David Williams and Anthony Litchfield who finished 41st O/a.

 

The next event is the Red Kite stages held this Sunday (23rd of Jan) in Llandovery. Dylan Davies and Dale Furniss will be competing in the Ford Escort at Car 6 whilst Eryl Evans will be co-driving in a Subaru Impreza at Car 21. Gareth Jones of Mount Walk garage will also take to the stages in his Ford Escort.
