The Christmas Stages rally held at Pembrey over the Christmas period saw five cars competing on the event with Lampeter & District Motor Club members occupying the drivers and navigators seat. The rally proved to be an eventful one for some members with the wet and slippery conditions proving a tough challenge for the whole field.

Top seeds of the LDMC members were Sean Crowley and Marc Mayes in their Vauxhall Nova 1600 at Car 5. After two very impressive results on the same weekend with a 2ndO/a at Malvern followed by 1stO/a at Talbenny, they were looking

to score another good result at the racing circuit. After setting two 4th fastest stage times on the opening two stages, their day was to be cut short when a recurring gear linkage problem would but an end to their bid for an impressive top 5 finish and out of the rally.

Iwan Mayes, was to be the highest placed Lampeter member on the event when he finished just outside the top 10 in 11thO/a and winning his class. Mayes howeverhad been lying 6th O/a at the midday service but a spin on stage 4 dropped him down the order.

Gareth Evans and Aled Evans finished 22nd O/a and 2ndin class only a mere 3 seconds down on the class winner. A collision with one of several large lorry tyres around the circuit on the first stage did lose the pairing some substancial time due to overheating as well as a spin on the final stage of the day.

The event also saw two members make their stage rallying debut. Ricky Pearce finished best of the debutants in his Peugeot 205 finishing 25th O/a and 3rdin the road rally class. Jason Thomas and Owen Rose's rally was to be short lived when they broke a driveshaft on the first stage of the event. The Trophy Rally did allow them to re-start the event after lunch for stages 4 & 5 and saw them finish 4th in the Trophy Rally.
