May day saw the first charity classic car run organised by Islwyn Evans and Delun Evans of Lampeter and district motor club. The event was held in memory of the club’s president Greg Evans, who had been a member of the club since its very early days. The money raised will be donated to brain tumour research.

Some ninety classic and rally cars from all around the country gathered in the rookery car park in Lampeter, in order to participate. The organisers had laid out a route of some seventy-five miles which began at half past twelve. It looped through Llanybdder, Llangadog and Llandovery before heading up to the damn at Llyn Brianne for a halt where refreshments were available for those who had worked up an appetite. The second half began at 3 o clock with the cars heading up to Staggs Head, before heading through Felindre on their way back to Lampeter where the run finished on the university campus

It was clear that everybody had enjoyed the run, and everyone was in good spirit as the cars regathered in the finish car park where everyone swapped stories of the day’s activities. The day’s events finished with a carvery, auction and disco, at the university campus.

A sum of over six thousand pounds has been raised with donations still arriving. The organisers would like to thank everyone for their donations, all of those who donated prizes, the marshals and spectators who lined the route, Dyfed Powys police for their help as well as the University of Wales Trinity Saint David Lampeter campus for hosting the evenings activities and the carvery.
