Just a small sample of the varied vehicles that attended the day

Sunday the 8th of October saw a very special event take place in the town of Lampeter, with club members Anthea and Dai Jones organising a charity car run an auction to raise money for a couple of very special causes.

The event came about from a cause very close to Anthea’s heart, as it was the thirtieth anniversary of her mother’s cancer remission, so to celebrate, a car run and auction was organised, with the help from Lampeter and district motor club, to raise money for the breast cancer unit at the Prince Charles hospital in Llanelli and the chemotherapy unit at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth.

There were many highlights to the day, as well as the run itself and the auction a genuine formula 1 car was present, thanks to the generosity of JB and son Civil engineering who bought their example to display, this proved to be a very popular addition to the day with dozens of people taking pictures and looking at it throughout the day. The auction included many items that were donated kindly by the local community and included such items as a flight for 3 people from Aberporth airfield and rugby tickets to a Welsh international in 2024 with hospitality at the Angel Hotel to name just two. Needless to say they proved to be very popular with several bidding wars taking place among the large crowd that was present.

With the auction complete and a lot of money raised everyone got into their cars ready for the run. Over 100 cars had signed up on the day (some estimate as many as 120) for the run that would see them travel down to Llandeilo Rugby club for refreshments and cake before a second half back to Lampter. The route included some of the roads that are used on the club’s own Bro Caron rally. It was nice for everyone to enjoy travelling over them in daylight and at a more relaxed pace. Once everyone arrived back in Lampeter there was food available kindly organised by the university for everyone that had ordered.

Then to round off the day a raffle was drawn, with the first prize being £500 that was donated by the club among other excellent prizes. As well as the raffle prize the club had also donated £500 to each cause to help with the fundraising. In total the current raised stands at over £12,000! Thanks must go to Anthea and Dai for organising a wonderful day, as well as the generosity of everyone who donated to the cause in any way and all the marshals along the route.
